Hi, my name is Matt Callian and I’m a freelance videographer based in Sydney (Australia). I have many years of experience in creating multimedia content and I specialise in creating quality videos for my clients.
You can hire me for professional video production, professional video editing and as a camera operator in Sydney NSW.
Like all top videographers, I know how to handle camera settings, lighting, and audio equipment. But perhaps even more importantly, I know how to effectively interact with talent and crew to produce the best possible outcome.
Having perfect knowledge of the technicalities behind the video camera but not being able to instruct or direct your actors and crew would pretty much set us up for disaster, or at least for some non-compelling footage being captured.
For that reason, as a video producer I focus on what’s in front of the camera, as well as what’s at the back of it, to make sure that the best possible footage is produced on set or location, so less time will be needed in the editing room to obtain the best final result.
I’ll guide them to perform at their best and I’ll discuss the intention of the scene before hand so we can better optimise time and efforts.
If I’m working with talents that are not used to be on camera (this happens very often during corporate videos and training videos), I’ll be using my coaching skills to give directions and get the best out of their own personality.
The approach is much more subtle. I would let the freelance photographer do the leading especially during formalities, while I capture candid shots. I do stage some of the shots during wedding videography, but this happens rarely, and when I’m 100% confident that the couple is happy to try things out.
I strive for quality vs quantity. I do believe that the best video editing for social media is achieved thanks to a wide variety of shots that will best summarise an event from different point of views.
I shoot to edit, the variety of footage will be key for a successful editing, and let’s not forget about the audio part. For this kind of production, my approach includes: working on the concept and the script first, then shooting the best possible raw to deliver a powerful message to your audience.
For anyone that will hire me as a freelance videographer or camera operator in Sydney for footage only, and not as a video editor, you can expect me to capture the event like I was the one editing it. I’ll make sure there is a variety of footage that will cover all your needs, I’ll be alert and follow the brief to the letter and I’ll put my own creativity into the project.
First of all, punctuality. I always plan in advance, I’ll arrive at the location at least 15 minutes BEFORE the time and if the location is parking friendly I’ll be driving, If not I’ll use public transport. I know the Sydney area well and I’m able to move around with ease.
I prepare my equipment the day before and I’m always carrying backup for any breakage that might occur. I’ll have at least 2 camera bodies on me, different lenses and some lighting in case of need. Batteries are all charged and ready to go, SD cards are formatted, all the details are in place and I just need to hit record.
I’ll discuss with you what your expectations are, and I’ll honestly tell you what I can achieve. If you have any preference in camera settings, camera angles, type of shots, audio quality and more, I’ll make sure we’re on the same page before the shooting day.
I have public liability insurance.
