How to Prepare a Video Production Brief (with Templates)

Let’s break down and explain how to prepare a video brief for your next video production effort. Whether it is self-produced or involving an external video production company, these templates will help you better communicate your vision.

Getting into video production? You need to prepare a brief, no matter the type of video you’re producing. Let’s take a look at some different types of productions you might be involved in, so we can bring you some actionable examples of video briefs for you to take home and start working on.

Video Brief Template 1: Event Video Production

We recommend this template for someone who’s looking for a video production company to record a live event. This template works as an initial brief for:

  • Weddings
  • Celebrations/Birthdays
  • Live music
  • Social events
  • Corporate conferences and events

We recommend this format and template for someone who’s looking to produce short videos (between 30 seconds to 5 minutes). This template works as an initial brief for:

What’s the proposed title of the video?

You might think this is the last step, to name your video and publish it wherever you need to. Quite the opposite actually, it’s what we recommend as the first step of the video production process (we write more on this topic here). Basically, if you don’t know the name of your video, you don’t know where you’re going. So our warm recommendation is to think of the title first.
