Edgewell wanted to celebrate the year with their whole team, and they’d planned a proper day out around Sydney. Staff were split into groups, each heading off to a different activity — one group climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, another spending the day at Taronga Zoo, and so on. In the evening, everyone reunited at The Boat House in the Northern Beaches for dinner, drinks, speeches and awards.

The original brief asked about covering a couple of the day activities as well as the evening event. That’s a reasonable ask, but it also raised a practical question: with several groups scattered across different locations at the same time, one videographer can only be in one place. Covering two activities properly would mean picking two groups over the others, while the rest of the day went unfilmed anyway.

A Different Way to Tell the Whole Story

Rather than covering part of the day and missing the rest, we suggested a way to capture all of it: have each group film their own activity on their phones as it happened, and send that footage through afterwards. That meant every group was represented, not just the two we could physically get a camera to. It also meant the professional coverage could go entirely into the part of the day built for it — the evening, where the whole team came together in one place.

Edgewell liked the idea, and it turned out to be a great way to tell the story. The phone footage from the day activities had a genuine, in-the-moment feel — the nerves and laughs on the bridge climb, the day at the zoo — the kind of footage that’s hard to recreate with a crew standing there. The evening, meanwhile, got the full treatment: b-roll of the reception and dinner, the speeches and awards, and the atmosphere as everyone reunited after their day apart.

Bringing It Together in the Edit

The final video opened with a fun, fast-paced montage of all the day’s activities, stitched together with playful motion effects — camera shutter sounds, photo frames popping in — giving it the feel of flicking through everyone’s day at once. It then moved into a well-paced edit of The Boat House event, capturing the reunion, the celebration, and the moments that mattered from the night.

The two styles complemented each other rather than competing. It gave the video a natural arc: everyone’s individual day, then the whole team back together to celebrate it.
