VIDEO PRODUCTION NOTES
Back in 2020, when the city of Sydney was in lockdown under Covid-19 restrictions, we helped the marketing agency Digital Knockout with their need to quickly put up a Facebook Ad aimed at spreading the word and signing up local businesses for the $10,000 Digital Grant announced by the City of Sydney.
We recorded the piece to camera at Lavender Bay, with one camera, gimbal, 50mm lens and a wireless lav mic. The recording took a couple of hours on location, including different takes and tests.
We edited and delivered the video within 2 days from recording, knowing that the client was eager to have their Facebook video ad up and running as fast as possible. This was especially time sensitive, as the $10,000 grant applications were about to close.
For the edit, we chose the square format, which allows for better positioning of video and informational graphics. Also, this being an ad for Facebook, and most likely being consumed on a mobile device, the square format allows it to occupy more screen space when the user is scrolling in portrait mode.
For A/B testing, the client asked for an alternative version of the same video, using different pieces to camera sections of the recording with a different feel. For that, we also delivered the “Covid 19 SUCKS!” version of the same ad, which you can see below.
