At Matt Callian Videography, we specialise in crafting impactful visual stories, and our collaboration with Toll on their Assisted Passage project is a perfect example of this.
Toll, a leading Australian transport company, partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to facilitate the safe and seamless relocation of refugees and displaced individuals.
Our task? To create a video that not only informs but also resonates emotionally, highlighting Toll’s dedication to this humanitarian initiative.
The Vision: A Story of Compassion and Support
Toll’s Assisted Passage project is a crucial service supporting Australia’s Offshore Humanitarian Program. The video needed to communicate Toll’s commitment to helping refugees transition to a new life through medical and logistical support, while also showcasing the company’s multicultural values.
Our challenge was to create an engaging and professional video that effectively delivered Toll’s message—while keeping production streamlined and efficient. As minimal time for b-roll was available, we designed a dynamic multi-camera interview approach to keep the visuals compelling.
The Production: Multi-Cam Setup for Maximum Impact
We filmed the video at Toll’s Parramatta office in NSW, using a four-camera setup (our Full Setup service + an additional camera) to achieve a dynamic and engaging look:
- Two cameras on tripods for stability and consistency
- One camera on a slider for smooth, cinematic movement
- One handheld camera for added energy and a natural feel
For audio, we captured professional-quality sound using a combination of lapel microphones and a boom mic, ensuring clarity and richness in every delivery.
Lighting was carefully set up to maintain a clean, professional look, complementing Toll’s brand identity.
Each participant, members of Toll’s diverse team, delivered the script on camera. As everyone read the same script, we were able to edit their performances together, creating a seamless flow where speakers completed each other’s sentences. This approach brought energy, warmth, and inclusivity to the final video.
Editing: Crafting a Compelling Narrative
Video editing was where everything came together. We focused on:
- Multi-camera editing to maximise engagement and keep transitions smooth
- Precise colour matching across all shots for a cohesive visual look
- Audio cleanup and normalisation for a polished, professional sound
- Carefully selected soundtrack to set the right tone for each section of the video
The video opened with vibrant b-roll of smiling staff, set to an uplifting track. To reinforce the theme of multiculturalism and inclusion, we introduced the speakers with a series of greetings in different languages. The core message was edited to feel like a natural conversation, enhancing its emotional impact.
For the central part of the video, where individual staff members shared their personal connections to the project, we used a more somber, calming track to highlight the emotional weight of their words. This provided a moment of reflection before returning to the energetic, uplifting tone of the closing sequence.
The final shots—carefully directed on-site—featured staff looking confidently into the camera, reinforcing Toll’s commitment to the project.
Localised Versions: Reaching a Wider Audience
To further enhance the reach and inclusivity of the video, we created five different versions, each featuring a central section in a different language. This allowed Toll to share the video with a broader audience, ensuring that key communities could connect with the message in their native language.
We also provided multilingual captions, ensuring accessibility and clarity across all language versions. Here below is one of the in-language versions of the video from Toll’s YouTube channel.
Final Delivery & Impact
The final videos successfully balanced professionalism, storytelling, and emotional engagement.
By leveraging a well-planned production and thoughtful editing, we delivered a series of videos that captured the heart of Toll’s mission. The dynamic multi-camera setup, polished post-production, and multilingual approach all contributed to a compelling final product.
At Matt Callian Videography, we take pride in our ability to transform important corporate messages into visually engaging narratives. If you’re looking to create a video that informs, engages, and inspires—let’s talk!
